Momentum 350m and Chevy 3500 SRW

I just picked up a Momentum 350m and was curious to know if I will be ok towing this beast with a 2015 Chevy 3500HD SRW Duramax CC SB. Pin weight from the factory is 2900# with a Reese 20K sliding hitch.

The label only says not to exceed 3773#. There is not a GVWR anywhere on the label.

The unloaded hitch weight is 2,900 pounds for a 350M. By the time you add cargo in the rig, you'll probably be somewhere around 3.5 to 3.6K#. Now add the weight of your FW hitch in the truck, passengers and cargo. It looks like you'll be quite a way over on the payload of your truck.

It will probably pull it fine, but your truck will likely be overloaded. You can follow this picture to get a better feel for it:

Your 3773 pound maximum Pin weight sounds about right on your truck.

If your trailer has a 2900 pound dry kingpin weight, you could easily be pushing 4000 lbs. after your trailer's completely loaded, fueled up, the weight of the fifth wheel hitch and with passengers to add.

Unfortunately, you're max'd out on your single rear wheel truck, and your trailer is usually seen with dual rear wheel trucks as tow vehicles. Not much you can do about your truck now, other than put a set of air bags on the rear suspension.

If you're towing in flat terrain, you'll probably be okay. If you were towing mega miles that included mountain driving, trading for a dually would be warranted.

Toy Haulers can be difficult to figure out, because what you carry in the garage actually lifts weight off the pin. You have about 900 lbs between dry pin weight and what your truck can carry. This is a good thing. The golf cart is actually helping ! No way to know exactly without actually weighing your rig . . but, I think you are in the right ballpark.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I can't wait for nicer weather here in Michigan but as soon as I get a chance, I will load the cart up and hit the scales.

I've seen some scaled number for toy haulers. What you load in the garage usually offsets the weight added in the front storage and therefore the pin weight % doesn't increase dramatically empty verses loaded. Most FW pin weight can increase considerably as there's no offsetting weight to what's added in the front storage. The worst case towing a toy hauler in terms of pin weight is when it's loaded but an empty garage.

When talking with other FTers that have gone from DRW to SRW most say they wished they had the DRW again, they add a lot of stability.

Congrats on your new 350. We just bought one also. One thing about the 350 is the baggage area is not huge like many fifth wheels, so bonus of that is, it cuts down on what you can add to pin weight in very front. Have fun on your travels- maybe see you down the road.
