    Lake Ouachita state park, AR.

We stayed here last week and it was fantastic. Highly recommended. We are now on the hunt for a new destination for our next trip. Can anybody with experience of this park point us in the direction of another of such high quality, We are based in DFW, so somewhere within 5 hours drive would be good.

In two weeks I'm spending a week at Sam Houston Natl Forest just north of Houston, it looks amazing on their website. We're staying in the RV portion, Cagle Rec area it's called. I'll report back with how nice it is and some pics. That's well within your travel radius.

You have many Texas State Parks within 5 hours. Some more interesting than others. All of them in the Hill Country are fun. Brazos Bend outside of Houston is one of my favorite. Unfortunately, you are going to need reservations in advance in most TX State Parks on the weekends, and even during the week on many of the very popular ones. Buy an annual pass if you don't already have one.

Caddo Lake SP outside of Marshall, Tx is a great state park. Also try Inks Lake state park in the hill country.
