    Overwhelming

    Well I’m new to the RV scene & not sure if I did it the right way or not, but while on our vacation/road trip I stumbled upon a hell of a deal on a new truck.
    I purchased a 2020 Chevrolet 2500HD long bed High country Duramax. Now comes the problem; after showing my wife all the toy haulers, she’s eyeing some bigens.
    So those of you that have knowledge please elaborate/help. My pin weight is 2775lbs with max towing of 18500lbs. The trailers she’s interested in have pin weights that exceed my limits. The trailer weights are like gvw13-16K with pin weights from 2780-3100.
    Would airbags help? Here’s a few of the trailers we’re interested in;
    Raptor 356
    Fusion 369, 373
    Grand design 351
    Also any input on reviews on said trailers would be appreciated. Please don’t tell me I put the cart before the horse lol.

    Welcome to the forum. I think in the numbers you initially posted you mean payload, not pin weight. Most toy haulers will be too heavy for a 3/4 ton truck. Figure about 200lbs for the hitch, add up weight of passengers in truck and anything else in there not installed from factory. Now subtract all that from the 2775lb payload you have. That number will be what is available for payload. Whatever manufacturers publish as pin weights on RVs are low estimates as they dont account for battery, propane tanks and cargo loaded in camper.

    On a side note, nothing can be done to legally increase a vehicles payload. Air bags are only for leveling out the truck.

    This question will probably get a lot of varied responses discussing paper derated numbers, and other things. You're the one that needs to be comfortable with the decisions you make. Whatever you do, be safe and stay within all your capacities (axle ratings, tire ratings, truck GVWR, etc).

    Not enough truck for any Solitudes/S Class/Toy haulers . Reflection 150 series with trailer GVWR around 10,000 lbs would fit. Many tow much bigger with a 3/4 ton, that choice is yours. best of luck

    Actually, you got the horse first; just sounds like you didn't get a horse capable of safely pulling the cart you want. As mentioned, be sure to understand payload versus towing capacity. Tons of threads on this topic. I am going to paraphrase one of best quotes I have read here on the subject. Most modern super duties will pull a small house off its foundation, the question is whether the truck's suspension can carry that house.

    In a word.... no.

    And as you have seen from others a bigger truck is the only solution.

    You're not the first one to get the cart before the horse. When you get another truck make sure it's a dually. Many guys pull with a single axle and years later get a dually...they can't believe how stable the dually is and wonder why they waited.

    What about the G class from GD; like the momentum 350g or 353g?

    That sticker tells you all you need. Your max payload is 3067 pounds. Thats the max weight you can put in the truck, hitch, bedliner, tools, people, and the pin weight of the trailer. The lower number under trailer ratings shows max 5th wheel pin weight is 2775 pounds, Fords don't show that number on their stickers. All of the big toy haulers will be 3500-4000 pounds pin (hitch) weight depending on how its loaded. You have plenty of truck for mid size fifth wheel or a smaller pull behind toy hauler but you'll be way overloaded with a big triple axle toy hauler. Don't feel bad, a lot of us have been there. That sticker is actually a little unrealistic. It shows max fifth wheel / gooseneck trailer weight of 18500 but max pin weight of 2775, that's 15% of trailer weight. Most big fifth wheels will have 20-23% of the trailer weight on the pin, mine does. So yes it will pull an 18000 pound trailer but it won't necessarily carry the hitch weight of an 18000 pound trailer. Hope that makes sense.
