    I've had a good experience with the Watchdog. It is the only one that is Bluetooth where you can monitor the condition and wattage pull of the trailer on your phone. Here is a previous link discussing it.

    You can have just as much damage from low voltage and may not be noticable until the damage is done. That is why I would go to am EMS over a simple surge protector.
