Reese Goosebox or Gen-Y gooseneck pinbox on a 303?

Is anybody using a Reese Goosebox or Gen-y gooseneck pinbox conversion on a 303 and towing with a 2017+ F-250 Short box.

I have a 2019 F-250 CCSB, and I am picking up a new 303 this week. I currently have an Andersen Ultimate hitch. I have to admit I am reconsidering that setup. I have a B&W turnover ball and not the factory puck system. I really like the idea of a clean bed. The AUH is easy enough to swap out, but the straight gooseneck system is really easy.

    Any turning radius concerns?

I like easy...pics would really be helpful.

    Thanks

If you have the B&W Turnover ball, get the 4" B&W goose ball set back with the Goose Box 20k. One guy on the Ford forum posted a picture with a Ford CCSB using stock gooseneck location and he was at ~80 degree turn. With the 4" setback goose ball you should have even more turning ability.

I don't know nothin', but will the 4" setback also result in less than optimum towing stability? As in the farther the pivot point is from the rear wheels, the more likely trailer sway to occur?

I don't think that the 4" setback is going to make any difference in towing stability of a 5th wheel. Look at a TT that could be well over 24" behind the rear axle and they tow stable if tongue weight and setup is good. Sway is nearly always caused by insufficient tongue weight and a 5th wheel should run between 20 - 25% and a TT 12 - 15% so if a TT doesn't sway a 5th wheel won't for sure with the extra pin weight.

I did some weighting of my rig and figured that using the 4” extender moved about 75 lbs off the front axle to the back one. Not a big deal to me, seeing that the front axle weights almost 5000 lbs to begin with.

SabreDriver, how did this shake out for you? Still with the Andersen?

Yes, still using the AUH hitch, like it a lot. Plenty of turning capabilities and it spends a lot of time in the truck, under the tonneau cover, unless I need the bed.

I’m still leaning towards a Goosebox, it just makes for a cleaner installation, but I don’t have an extra $1200 laying around. I couldn’t get one the week before I picked up the trailer, and I didn’t want a heavy hitch in the truck bed, so I went with the AUH in the time crunch.

With a longbed, can anyone comment on the turning radius with the GBox or GenY without it hitting the side of the bed?

I'm wondering the same and if they get to 90 degrees without hitting the side rails of a rolltop cover.
