    Sequoia 2019 pulling a 22mle?

We have a Toyota Sequoia, 2019, with towing capacity of 7100 lb. Can this safely pull a 2020/2021 22mle? The Sequoia has the tow package. We checked the "yellow" sticker on the door and the load capacity had been reduced by "10lb"? We were originally told the Sequoia would tow 7400 lb but this is not the case, the VIN specifies only 7100. GD says the mle is 6995 GVWR and that is getting pretty close? Too close? Looking for advice. Thanks!

You really need to check the payload rating on the Sequoia. It is on the yellow sticker and compare this to the tongue weight of the trailer. At 6995 tongue weight could be as high as 15% or 1049 lbs. You need to make sure that the loaded tongue weight plus anything else like the hitch, kids, dog, etc that will be in the Sequoia does not exceed the payload rating of the truck. If that is good you should be fine. I know that the 5.7 in the Sequoia will tow that trailer. I towed heavier with a Tundra with the same engine.

When packed for a trip with 1/3 water, our 22mle was close 6000. Tongue weight of 760. What those your payload sticker on your drivers door say? Ours is at 1426. With the wdh, some tools, geny, beer cooler and us of course we are border line on payload.

We found the yellow sticker and it says we are at 1325 lb for payload. It says, combined weight of occupants and cargo should never exceed 600kg or 1325 lbs. The occupants, lol, will take up the 325 lbs.
The mle specifies a 490 hitch weight (is this the tongue weight?) The vehicle tongue weight is 710. This is so confusing. The dry weight on the trailer is 5176 and the dry weight of the vehicle is 5700 (about) and there is a towing capacity of 7100. To me, seems the numbers will work? We will add the weight distribution hitch and the sway bar and whatever else is needed, but want to make sure we are in the safe-zone for traveling. I appreciate your advice and quick response to our post.

Ya, all of these numbers can be confusing at first. The hitch weight is tongue weight. But what GD advertised is from a bare bone rig without any options, battery or lp tanks. I'll be honest, your tight. Check you axle weight ratio also. It's on the sticker inside your door.
There a few towing calculators and spreadsheets on this forum that can really help you out. You can also keep asking here. Others will chim in.

Seems like you will be close but doable may just need to pack more into the trailer than the Sequoia to keep the vehicle weight down. You have about the same payload as my Tundra had and I towed a 9995 lb 297 RSTS with it but then I was about 300 lbs overweight but still under the axle weight ratings.

Couldn't sleep last night thinking about all the numbers. Got up and put together this:

    2019 Toyota Sequoia SR5 2wd 5.7L V8
    GVWR 7,100 Sticker on car
    GCWR 13,600 USK60L-GKTSKA (Owner's Manual, pp. 183)
    Payload 1,325 USK60L-GKTSKA (Owner's Manual)
    Curb Weight 5,730 https://www.edmunds.com/toyota/sequo...eatures-specs/
GAWR (Front) 3,900 Sticker on car
GAWR (Rear) 4,280 Sticker on car
    Tongue Weight (Max) 740 https://www.toyotamobility.com/mobil...oad-guidelines
    TWR 7,400 USK60L-GKTSKA (Owner's Manual, pp. 183)

    Grand Design XLS 22MLE
    UVW (Dry Weight) 5176
    Hitch Weight 490
    GVWR 6995

    Calculated Performance Values
GCWR Max 12,970 Utilization of max value (14,095)
Tongue Weight Max 700 Owner's Manual, pp. 184 (using 10%)
Tow Capacity Max 7,400 80% of capacity is suggested
Tow Capacity Utilized 80% Just a placeholder to know my utilization number
Ideal Tow Weight 5,920 This is allowing 744 lbs of cargo
Ideal Tongue Weight 560 This is calculated from the Ideal Tow Weight and included in the Ideal Vehicle Load
Ideal Vehicle Load 1,320 This is Tongue Weight + 2 people + 400 lbs of cargo

My unknowns (guesses) are the tongue weight and how much will the Weight/Load Distribution kit effect this (I don't like the guesses).
I know someone has weighed their MLE with some pounds of cargo and know their tongue weight. That would be very helpful.
I have no idea how to relate the Weight/Load Distribution kit into the equation, but if my numbers are already in the green, it can only get better!

Who are the goto commercial experts that actually make the decisions when you have all the numbers? (you guys are great and helpful, no disrespect inteneded!)

Very thorough thinking for sure. Just as another piece of info the WDH will not change the tongue weight. All it does is re-distribute it and level the tow vehicle.

Using these weights, Steph's and Lise's tongue weight is close to 13% and right in the middle of the recommended 10-15% of GVWR.

These are the numbers that may help you the most:
    • Payload 1325 (per your door sticker)
    • "Wet" Tongue Weight 760 (estimate, could be as high as 900 if use 13% of GVWR)
    • WDH Weight 80 (Blue Ox Sway Pro 1000)
    • Occupants 325 (your estimate)
    • Payload remaining 160 lbs

That's 160 lbs for vehicle cargo.

At a tongue weight of 760 lbs + the weight of the WDH, you have also exceeded your hitch max weight rating.

I suspect your RAWR will be okay.
