    Boondocking question

This last weekend was my first time boondocking in my Imagine 2670MK. I had a great time out in the middle of a field in N-GA...except for the 3 straight days of rain from hurricane Delta and getting stuck trying to leave on Monday.

Good thing my buddy whose land I was camping on was resourceful!

I was running a generator to top off the battery and to make my coffee in the morning. Problem is my camper, to the best of my knowledge, doesn’t have anywhere to charge my phone except when the generator is running. Because of the remoteness my phone was searching for signal a lot and the battery went down quick. The times I had the generator running wasn’t near enough to fully charge my phone.

Anyway, on to the question: how do you charge your USB devices when boondocking? Is there a mod I could do to solve this issue?

I installed a 12v usb port for charging while traveling or dry camping. Works great, found it on Amazon. Click image for larger version.

When we are out of phone signal we turn the phones to airplane mode , that will stop the continual searching for signals and save tons on the battery. Put it back in regular mode when near a signal. For charging we have a few candy bar style chargers and also use the truck. A few phone charges won't kill your truck battery.

Where in the 12V system did you tie in?

I had a 12v DVD player in our garage area that crapped out. I got rid of it and used that line. You could run a new one or tap into an existing 12v line, it doesnt draw much power.

Either install the USB outlet or buy one of those cheap powerpack battery banks for $20 from Monoprice. Mine has enough juice to recharge my iPhone 3x.

I use one of these while tent camping off my motorcycle - https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's a bit more than the portable batteries for keeping mostly phones charged, and there are other models of various brands with slightly different features and capacities, but I can charge just about anything I have with me via one of the ports. I like the idea of backups for the backups, so even if your trailer, truck, and phone battery were dead, you can still charge the phone and maybe get a call out.

My 2400 BH came with 12v USB charging ports by the master bed and the bunk beds and I may add more. As for the phone, try shutting off wifi and/or turning on airplane mode. Also, close out all unnecessary apps on your phone.

Little trick I have used while traveling over the world.

The back of most TV's normally have additional USB ports you can connect too/

Phone and cable to TV..... charging while the generator is running......

There is a large variety of 12v solutions on the market for charging with USB. A lot of these solutions are geared towards Amateur Radio operators and the like, but no reason they cannot be used in RV's too. Powerwerx has a decent selection:

Personally I would wire directly to the battery (or bus bar) with a dedicated fuse and not connect to something already present with its own fuse.
