Intermittent hydraulic pump motor problem and solution
I would like to share our experiences recently, hoping this will provide others with information for future needs.
Background: When we left our starting point, all slides and leveling jacks worked fine. Upon arriving at 1st stop (just overnight) all leveling jacks and slides worked fine. Next morning, all slides retracted fine, rear (4) leveling jacks retracted fine. Front landing jacks started working fine, but upon attempting to raise jacks a little bit more to get hooked up, they STOPPED!
Troubleshooting: After contacting dealer service, they helped with some basic troubleshooting. Fluid level fine, nothing physically preventing jacks from retracting, hooked up to short power, batteries fully charged and showing 13+ volts DC. Same voltage at center pole of relay (circuit breaker ok). Can hear relay clicking. When attempting to retract/extend jacks voltage at other poles of relay, and at respective sides of pump motor.
Possible problem: Pump motor acting up.
Temporary solution: Manually raise front landing jacks. Thanks to you tube video, we were able to raise jacks and get safely hooked up and on the road to next location.
More background: At next location, no problem lowering jacks, extending slides. Is the pump motor just intermediate or what??? When leaving this location, no problem with slides or jacks. At next location, started to extend front landing jacks and worked for very short time, one jack about 6”, then stopped. So problem is back!
Next step(s): Called Lippert Customer Support, and explained all to them, and they suggested checking electric again. Upon checking with meter, notice a spark at relay post to extend front landing jacks. Upon further checking, found the wire connector to the relay post wasn’t tight, not very loose, but could move just a little. Tighten, checked voltage while running jacks up/down. Now getting proper voltage at pump motor (and it’s working) as required.
Solution: Was loose nut on relay post, once tighten, this seems to fix the problem. Time will tell, if this nut will need to be replaced or somehow secured better.
I hope this helps somebody else, if they encounter this problem.Last edited by WhittleBurner; 10-20-2020 at 07:39 AM. Reason: fixed title

Thank you for the info. Maybe somebody else will have the same issue and will find the answer here.

Thanks for sharing the details of your problem and troubleshooting. Loose electrical connections can be frustrating to troubleshoot and locate sometimes.

Just as a tip, and for future reference....a loose connection ANYWHERE in a circuit can cause exactly what happened to you. It could be anywhere in the circuit.....the pos. post of the battery, the termination point at the breaker (either side), at the reversing switch for the hyd. pump, the pump itself, AND...the ground connection both ends. And here is the point I want to make. A loose electrical connection will not always show a lack of voltage or a voltage drop. In other words, when taking voltage readings, the voltage may appear to be normal....even through the loose connection. But when the device is trying to operate (hyd. pump running in this instance), the loose connection does not allow enough current flow for the device to operate properly and at that time (while trying to operate), you can usually see a significant voltage drop at the loose connection point, when being diagnosed with a volt meter. So remember, just seeing good voltage readings when the device is idle or not trying to operate, is not usually very helpful information and could lead you astray when troubleshooting for the problem.
Oh, and I believe the title of this thread should read...."Intermittent"......not Intermediate.Last edited by xrated; 10-20-2020 at 06:48 AM.
