Weight Issue
Hi all,
We've got a 2019 RAM 3500 pulling a 311BHS.
The truck is rated for 6000 lbs on the front axle, 7000 on the rear, and 12300 total.
The trailer GVWR is 14000 lbs.
Just weighed (before filling up, oops). When I'm fulled loaded [except short 25 gallons of diesel (~175 lbs)] with the trailer hooked up, the front axle weighs in at 5360, and the rear at 6960.
This means that I'm under my limits for each axle, but combined, I'll be just over for the total truck GVWR. Counting for the missing diesel, I'll be at 12,495 for a 12,300 rating, or 295 lbs over.
How concerned should I be about this overage? Do I need to move things from the truck to the trailer? Move things in the trailer further aft? Something else?
Thanks in advance for all your advice.Ross & Ruby

I would move things from the truck to the trailer to give you more margin. That will increase the pin weight but less than the weight removed from the truck so this should help.
Be careful about moving weight back in the trailer. You need a certain amount of weight for it to tow properly. Need at least 20% pin weight from what I have heard.

The front axle is showing so much because of the diesel engine.
Your 1,200 lbs more than me on the front axle. I am 4,160 front axle, you are 5,360 lbs.
Your rear is 940 lbs more than me, that is not from the long bed alone (I am a CC / short bed).
My rear is 6,020 lbs and yours is 6,960.
Are you carrying your coveted lead ball collection in the under-bed storage or the pass through storage?
In my front most compartment I have 2 group 27 wet acids, 2 tool boxes, a 25# bag of grass siid, 2 gallons of weed killer and some other small items.
In my cross through I have 6 chairs, weed eater, 2 large totes with hoses/wires/adapters/sewage-stuff/wood planks, splitting axe, golf cart charger/cables, lawn darts, distilled water gallons (x2) and some additional smalls.
Under the bed I keep 2 ceramic heaters, a couple cases of water, crock-pot and some other "smalls".
Under my kitchen benches is all spare bedding/pillows.
The kitchen cabinets/fridge is full, and the outdoor kitcen cabinets are full of bottled water and a few cases of beer. Outdoor fridge is full of beer and moonshine.
I kind of think I have a pretty full camper (same 311BHS as you) and my weights are way lower?

I guess we maybe do. We've got a heavy-****** residential mattress that the fiancee NEEDS, as well as a fairly heavy solar/inverter/battery setup (although that's lithium and behind the pass through wall, so more evenly distributed).
Other than those things, we've also removed the side-by-side recliners and put a desk in, and removed the tilting bunk, entertainment center, and outdoor fridge, while being replaced with the desk I'm writing this on.
Note that my trailer weight was with a full fresh water tank.
In my front compartment I've got three folding chairs, an inflatable river raft, and a backpack of camping gear.
In the pass through, we've got the standard power cable, few hoses, a folding table, toolbag and drill, and a bunch of wooden leveling blocks.
Inside, we've got much of the same, with under-bed quite full of assorted stuff, as well as the cupboards in the kitchen.
It doesn't feel like we're being way overweight, except maybe the fancy mattress.
In the back of the truck, I'm hauling a bit of firewood, a Honda 2200 genny, 2.5 gals of DEF, 2.5 gals of gas, and a pretty light mountain bike.Ross & Ruby

Your definitely at the max for your truck. You need to carry only passenger(s) in your truck and everything else in your trailer. Based on the numbers you stated, your about 23% pin weight right now. If you move that cargo in your pickup bed to the trailer, a full tank of fuel should get you right back to max. After you burn fuel, you'll get lighter. Moving the weight out of the bed and into the trailer will have more of an impact than moving weight in your trailer but you should move some of the weight in your trailer toward the center if you can. My opinion, you will be ok being a couple hundred pounds over weight occasionally. If after moving stuff around, you still need to shed weight off the truck, your hitch would be the item to look at unless you already have a light weight one. Your tires may be the first victim of operating at max weight so make sure to keep them appropriately aired up and/or change tires to a higher load range to have a buffer.
