New brakes break in

I just had to have new brakes on my 29RS.
New drums, bearings,seals, shoes and magnets.
Per lippert, they suggest running on max gain at 60 mph and drag brakes down to 40 mph to burnish drake shoes.
They actually have a utube video showing this method.
Has anyone else done this?
I left dealer with not much brakes on 10 gain...
They adjusted them as tight as could be without dragging.

I burnish all new brakes regardless of what they're on. So you went to 60mph and then manually applied (i.e., via brake controller, not your TV pedal) to try to drag the truck down to 40mph and you couldn't? Gain should be 5 to 6 when bedded and properly adjusted.

You ease into them, and are only slowing briskly from highway speed. A good rule is to do this 3x and then drive for 5-6 miles to cool them. Repeat. That should burn them off and start a good transference. After these at speed, I personally take a trailer up to 40-45 mph and use the controller to bring it and TV down to a stop for 3x. Go for another ride to cool before parking it. These are variations out there, but all are geared for the same thing in successful burnishing and bedding.

Note of caution, if you install discs, dont use muscle memory on the controller learn by drums or you're going to curse the seatbelt clamping you tightly when the beast whoas immediately! Lol

Here is a question. Wouldn't the brakes have been broken in by the time the transport guy went from factory to local dealer. I purchased my Solitude 372WB in St. George Utah which is how far from Grand Design manufacturing plant? Has to be 1500 miles.

Broken in? Maybe.

Abused? Definitely.

OP's question was not from a factory delivered unit, but having new brakes put on his existing unit.

Can’t for awhile, we have been getting dumped on with 10” of wet snow this week up here.

I just had new axles installed last week with new brakes. Dealer didn’t adjust them, so I went full tight then 5 clicks off. Even set to 10 there was little to no braking. I then added one more click to them and after 280 miles, mostly highway, I’d say they are back to normal and my gain is set to 7.5. So it does take a little while for them to set in.

Yes go through the burnishing process it is important because, as you pointed out, currently with gain on 10 you have very little braking. The last time I changed our brakes I used a couple of frontage roads between two exits near the storage we use (a two mile run each way) and use the hand actuator only for the trailer brakes to slow the rig and truck from around 40mph to 20 mph with a cooling period in between. I did this about 20 or so times and noticed a greatly improved response from the trailer brakes. I did this early in the morning on a weekend to avoid aggravating a ton of other motorists with what they might consider erratic driving. After that I made sure to leave plenty of distance for braking on the first couple of trips with no trouble. I typically keep my gain set at 7 with a 367BHS loaded at right around 14K pounds.
