    Dutch Oven cooking?

How are you guys using your dutch ovens; gas grills, briquettes, or wood? If gas, how do you accommodate heating the lid?

Looking forward to seeing your responses.

I use coals either from briquettes or the camp fire, depends on which is the handiest. For stews ,soups and chili I don't worry about heating the lid and use the camp chef stove.

If I want to bake something, I just cook it in the oven. When camping, we seldom even cook inside the trailer--except popcorn.

We cook on a propane grill and an electric skillet most meals. Otherwise, it's the crock pot.

We have a tripod that we hang our dutch from over the campfire! For cooking, we heat from beneath....baking we put coals on the lid.

Great information! I saw Camp Chef had the tent thingy for gas grills, and wasn't sure how well it worked.

Whittle, if you're ever out in CA, I'm coming over! That looks great!

offtohavasu. I use mine on my 2 burner grill all the time. I use the tent thing and a metal heat diverter from camp chef. the diverter is used to keep the main heat from hitting the bottom. It spreads it out.... works fantastic. I have made everything from mountain man breakfasts, ribs, and even pineapple upside down cake. keep the heat low and it will never burn. Here is the link on the tent but if you buy one-----go to Amazon. http://www.campchef.com/cast-iron-co...oven-dome.html

Camp Dutch oven. Briquettes, some on top, some on bottom, depends on whether baking, roasting, etc. Family fave is chicken n biscuits. Ooh! Can't wait for spring!
