2018 303RLS Surface Rust on Steel Frame (undercarriage)

    Friends,

I am strongly considering purchasing a 2018 303RLS. Inspection reveals surface corrosion on the I-beams, steps, axles, etc. underneath the unit.
The unit has been kept near the ocean in Florida. Salt air cause?

    1) Should I be concerned?
    2) Are there suggested remedies?
    3) Is this cause to reject the unit?

    Thank you in advance.

Looks like it may have been driven on some roads that had been treated for ice or snow - pretty common if that's the case. Take a wire brush to it, spray on some rust-arrestor, then paint with some Rustoleum

Thank you, Rob. Do you have a recommendation on a rust arrestor?

Rustoleum also makes a good spray-on product called "Rust Reformer." There are also bulk brush-on products for bigger jobs, but a few cans of the Rustoleum product should do you. Be sure and inspect brake lines, etc. while you're up under there. Ask how long since the last wheel bearing service, too, and count on doing that if it's been more than a year or 10,000 miles. Examine the spring shackles and hangers - especially where the hangers are welded to the frame - and make sure everything is good there.

Not sure if you can get this in the US or not but I had much the same issue with my trailer and used Corrosion Free. I have been using this on my cars professionally applied and never have an rust issues here in Canada even with the massive amounts of salt applied to our roads. Corrosion Free penetrates the rust and prevents it from getting worse and the best part is no wire brushing or anything. Just spray it on and done. I did my frame, Axles and hitch underneath in about an hour.

Here is the website that has the info. It comes with a sprayer as well that I purchased. https://corrosionfree.com/
