    240 to 110 Conversion Plug

Hope everyone is enjoying the cooling temperatures. We are looking at washer and dryer for our Solitude. Does anyone use, currently use, or have experience with a 240 to 110 conversation plug for a dryer?

I'm not sure that I have ever heard of something like this. Are you trying to figure out how to install a household, 240v dryer in your Solitude and run it on 120V?

Yes we are. We are shopping around and we came across this adapter plug on Amazon that claimed you could run you 240 dryer on a standard plug. Seemed to good to be true. I would think, it would be terrible for the dryer and plug after awhile.

While there are some internet hacks that claim residential dryers can run on 110 through a converter, the wattage/amperage capacity are insufficient to make that happen, and not really safe. You need to consider other options.

You can rig most dryers so they will “operate“ on 120V, though it is far more complex than a simple adapter.

Even if you did change the dryer, the wiring in your rig is inadequate. A dryer uses far more power than a single 120V outlet can provide. Probably about 4 times as much. Any modifications made to the dryer to allow it to run on a single outlet would result in very long drying times. You would have the same amount of heat as a hair dryer.

If you really want to proceed, your rig has 240V available at the box and a smart electrician could feed a dryer.

Problems you might need to solve would be a breaker box that can handle the load/wiring/breaker, the heat radiated inside, and the size of the vent required.

If you found an electric washer / dryer combo that you like, more then likely it also comes as a gas dryer. Convert it to propane and your done.. KEN

geesh.... all these things seem to be just asking for more trouble than not... wiring a separate 240v plug, using an adapter to get 120v to run a 240v dryer intended for a house..... propane - which most likely means a new dryer....... trying to convert a 240v appliance to a 120v type.... yikes.....

Whatever you choose, choose a SAFE alternative.... maybe campground laundry facilities or a dryer made to run on 120V? I know, more money......

Having wired several electric dryers, I can assure you that it is WATTS that determine the amount of heating capacity. A 20 amp 110 volt circuit will yield about 2200 watts (20 x 110). A 30 amp 220 volt circuit can yield 6600 watts (30 x 220) or three times the drying capacity. I don't remember ever seeing a 30 amp 110 volt dryer at 3300 watts (30 x 110). I also don't remember seeing a 220 volt outlet in our Solitude. There is only a 110 volt duplex receptacle in there.
