    Damage from blown Westlake tire

Our brand new 2021 17MKE blew a tire with only 500 miles on it and did quite a bit of damage. We have to replace black tank and are not happy. Husband is thinking of adding diamond plate fenders to protect future damage.

Is anyone doing that? He is looking at Northern Tool's Tie Down Engineering Adjustable Tandem Teardrop Fender 60-72". I'm a little nervous about modifying the TT.

The tire in front of the one that blew is losing 10 pounds per day. We have zero confidence in these tires, Westlake ST205/75 R 14.

First time poster, hope I did everything right.

    Thanks.

It's time for new tires. This is an issue with certain Westlake tires. Did you contact GD about repairs?

Westlake tires are total, total junk. Get yourself some Goodyear Endurance and switch out spare also.

We did. Very disappointed that Grand Design puts those on their trailers.

My husband is still wants to install a pair of tandem teardrop fenders he ordered from Northern Tool in case there's another blowout. I am concerned about altering the trailer.

That statement is only partially true. The Westlake load range E tires on the lighter rigs are very problematic. The Westlake load rage G tires on the heavier trailers are a much better tire with a better track record.

One of the former moderators on this forum "armor plated" the underside of the slides over the tires on his trailer using some flat metal sheeting. That approach would protect the flooring, but I'm not sure it would do much for the skirting to the side.
