Increase the size of your pass through compartment

Yesterday I installed an onboard 50A hardwired Surge Guard unit with a monitor in our 310GK 5th wheel. In the process I needed to take off the rear basement side panels to gain access. With them off I realized that there is some extra space that can be gained with out too much effort. I was able to move the large side panel over a few inches on the door side and also angle it back at the other end. I took the center panel and cut it almost all the way through from the back side. Then bent it so that it was 39 inches long (about 49 degrees) and reinforced it with 1” x 2” pine on the rear side to hold it’s shape. The short leg is 14”

Before this I had made a plywood floor with thin carpet so I can tie down stuff with out making holes in the original floor. You can see the extra space I gained to the left of the carpet.

Amazing how much space was there to be gained! A few of us made this mod. Here is a link to mine. I moved the inverter from behind the wall and them put the wall at a right angle on the wet bay side. And since then I have hinged the wall on the right of the wet bay (looking from the wet bay side).

I cut the sidewall piece by the wet bay. Then I just moved the center wall over to gain some extra space. I also installed sliding door locks so I can easily remove the center section without tools. Note I also installed a window and some additional LED strip lighting behind the wall so I could see the back side of the wet bay. Plus I added a removable shelf to help organize items.
