I find a wide variance in price and am unsure if it relates to quality of product.
Auto stores from 10.00 to 18.00 for 2.5 gallons.
Farmers supply 14.00 for 5 gallons (kinda unwieldy).
Does the price difference coincide with quality of product?
    Thanks for your help:

Same here I am new also, after 1 box of DEF I headed to the truck stop, it’s half the price and much more convenient.

I use Blue DEF, from Walmart or Costco. Usually pay $9.99 for 2.5 gallons. My 2017 Duramax uses about one gallon per 1,000 miles. Biggest issue is to make sure it is fresh. Other issue is don't get it on your paint.

I shop around when I'm traveling. I have found Peak Bluedef at Rural King for $6 for 2.5 gallons. That's when I purchase several!

I owned my current Duramax for a year now and have added DEF 3 times, Jan, May, Aug.

Jan 6 gals really pissed at that one because dealer didn't top off before I picked it up
May 2.5 gals dealer added and made a mess, at least it was free
    Aug 2.5 gals added myself

Total usage in 10k miles 11 gals.

Total towing miles is about 2k.

Other than a pain to pour in, not a big deal.

Total cost is about 60 bucks in a year.

DEF is essentially cow piss, so I fail to see the benefit of paying a premium price. I typically buy Walmart's brand DEF which typically has been in my experience the least expensive box DEF. I have also purchased at truck stops, but besides the fact that truck stop truck pumps are typically very messy, so I tend to avoid, but it seems that when I need to stop for fuel I do not need DEF. I also like to separate the fuel fill process from the DEF fill process to lessen the chance of error.

LOL! The urea in DEF is by no means the urea in urine. It is 100% synthetically batched, and DEF is produced with blending the synthetic urea with deionized water. The cost variations come with respect to how the synthetic urea is produced, the grade of DI water (there are 5 standard in the USA), and, of course, bling and packaging. Nonetheless, provided it is API listed and meets the ISO standard, good to go! and do stay away from pastures!

Now Im wondering what the shelf life of DEF is? Can you keep a half box in your garage over the winter until the next summer?
