Swapped out the dreaded CH751 baggage compartment locks

Dreaded CH751 locks. Apparently 60% of RV baggage locks work with this specific key.

Installation was relatively easy. Only problems were the offset latch was offset too much and the straight one didn’t give a secure lock-up. The solution was to squish the offset one in my 20-ton bottle jack press with some washers of the desired thickness to give the correct offset. There were some reviewers on Amazon who didn’t like the nut much as it could skip or slip. I just used the nut from the old lock as a backup or stop nut. Seems to have worked well.

At least this should help keep the casual thief out of our cargo areas.

Nice job and a nice write up. Despite the fact that everyone and their Grandma has keys for the locks they are only there to keep honest people honest. Anyone wanting to get in could do so with a good tug. I see newer trailers are fitted with a dead-bolt style lock that should be a more secure feature and long overdue. Seeing and talking to people out and about it seems the cargo door locks were changed over on my model not long after I bought mine.
What you did is a good thought, especially for someone that uses a public storage facility. In fact you have me thinking. Do you have a link to the parts on Amazon?

Another solution is to order replacement locks from RV locks and more( often on sale)so entry door, baggage locks and ( for 5th wheels ) from compartment are all keyed alike, bonus is lots of extra keys so you can stash spares strategically.
