    Is 12 gallons enough?

The rig that we are looking at has a 12 gallon hot water heater. There are only two of us. Is the 12 gallon tank normally sufficient or should we look into a tank less unit.

    Thanks

Our TT has a 6-gallon. Just the wife and I and it has not been a problem. We use hot water for showers and dishes. We don't have a washer or dishwasher in our Imagine.

You don't say what kind of rig you have and what demands for hot water you have. I think 'enough' may be different for different people. For us 6 gallons is enough. We don't use much. The hot water is so dang hot that I'm sure we use far more cold to get the right temp.

One thing about RVing, you generally come very acquainted with Navy showers, especially since there's only so much holding tank volume. Certainly my wife and I know plenty of folks who exclusively camp with full hookups and enjoy 20-minute showers and have the tankless heaters, but you should not feel that is a must have. We got by on 6 gallons, got spoiled with 10 gallons, and now feel we're in luxury with 12 gallons!

The hot water heaters run at about 160 degrees and can run on both electric and gas at the same time (for minimum recovery time). Given this you can both take long showers and should still be fine. Even with a 10 gallon HWH and a family of 4 we never ran out of hot water.

My wife and I have never run out of hot water with our 12G tank and we don't skimp on our showers. I still think a hot shower in the morning is one of life's great luxuries. I used to run electric only for the water heater but after seeing our first electric bill from Southern California Edison I switched to propane!

My wife and I have either a 6 gallon Hot water heater and when my wife takes a shower she is in there for a long time. I turn on the gas and electric heating when she takes a shower and she has never run out yet. I think you should be fine.

A friend of mine is currently living in a LG 5th wheel with a on demand HWH. He hates it and complains about it constantly. He is probably going to buy a small water heater tank since the 5th wheel is stationary.

Me and wife have a 6 gallon. Water comes out so hot that you have to use a lot of cold to make the shower temp right. That turns our 6 gallons into 9 or 10 usable gallons for a shower. It only takes about 20 minutes to do a full recovery between showers. Hot water is something we don't complain about. You'll be more than fine.

We have been extremely pleased with the performance of our 10 Gallon Suburban unit in our S-Class. Never ran out of hot water even with back to back showers.

We spent our first 4-1/2 years full-time in a fifth wheel with a 6-gallon water heater. We had to time showers... especially when the incoming water was very cold and/or my wife washed her (long) hair. It just meant giving the WH time to recover. Our new Solitude has the 12-gallon water heater and it's wonderful! We have yet to run out of hot water showering one after the other before bedtime.
