Momentum 31G arrived today. The good and the bad......

We've had our Momentum 31G on order since 9/14. It's cleared the assembly line 11/12. Arrived at our dealer at noon today. Today is our 36th anniversary. Cheryl and I headed out to the dealer this afternoon with great excitement. Ok, I had great excitement. Not that Cheryl is not going to love this new adventure but I'm more over the top about it than she is. First thing I see when we get there is that the front cap has a big deformed place on the right side. Thought it was transport damage at first but upon further review, it is not. It's obvious that this cap was painted and installed with this deformed area on it. Really disappointing.

Dealer will contact GD tomorrow. They want GD to send a new cap and have them change it but I don't think I like that idea. I'm in the body shop business so I think i prefer to just take it to our shop and have my guys fix it and leave the factory installed cap in place. Guess we'll find out tomorrow what GD is willing to do.

The rest of the trailer looks awesome. Fit and finish is excellent. The rear awning is a Thule manual awning when all the others I've see are power but that's not a big deal to me. I see that the spring hangers have all been reinforced. Obviously a good thing. The GD web site says the 31G has 15" wheels but it has 16's with the Goodyear Endurance tires. Also good. It does have the Coleman Mach A/C's as it's supposed to so also a good thing.

Not much cargo carrying capacity left. She's a heavy girl. 9812 lbs dry is a bit scary on a 12k GVWR trailer. Virtually guaranteed it's going to be over 12k with our SXS in the garage.

Overall we love the trailer. It felt weird right from the start to order something that we had never seen. No dealer near us had a 29G or 31G in stock but we loved what we saw in video's and pictures. It's the perfect size for us and the layout was definitely our favorite of all the trailers we looked at. Being able to option it out exactly as we wanted it was another good thing. I am super disappointed that GD would send it out with the front cap like that and I'm concerned about being overweight but hopefully it will all work out in the end.

Awesome you got your new rig, not awesome on the dented cap. Hope GD allows you to fix it. In the mean time enjoy the new toy, go out and have fun!

With my recent experience with front caps, I would suggest you consider having your best fiberglass worker true it up and then refinish the cap. Get agreement in writing from GD to reimburse the full cost of repair. Then can give you the paint codes, decals, and moldings. I'm certain you'd be much happier with the final result over what a freighted cap will likely arrive like, and then properly reconstructing the roofing transition so it doesn't pop open and stays weathertight.

Congratulations on both the purchase and the anniversary, and give yourself the additional gift of MORryde HD shackles and CRE3000 equalizers!

Thanks Rob. I think we can just repair and refinish the white section on that side. We have a color camera so don't even need the paint codes. We can generate a match with the camera. Still shaking my head that something that obvious would leave the factory. I can't image that replacing the cap will be a good decision over the long haul. We will definitely be doing the MORryde shackles and CRE300 equalizers. Unfortunately most places we ride are on less than stellar dirt roads that will probably destroy the stock components.

Thanks! I've pretty much made up my mind that we are going to fix it ourselves no matter what GD says.

I would also be concerned about the weight. 9812 lbs doesn't include propane and tanks, batteries, water in the tank, gas in the tank, and personal stuff. Won't leave much room for the sxs. Take a look at the axles and see what they are rated at. Should be a tag on each one.

I've already been adding all those things in my head. GD says the axles are rated at 6k. I'll check the axles themselves when we pick it up.

Yes GD and many others love to under size the axles and use the tongue weight for the remainder. I’m no trailer suspension expert but I prefer the axles to meet the maximum load of the entire trailer GVWR. I think it was Alliance (have to check) that was one of the few that did this as safety margin.

At least the suspension hangers got the extra supports!

Nice rig though! We are also looking at the G line to upgrade to.

    Cheers
