I go up there to hunt almost every season and it's a great time. You're absolutely right that it's about the people and camaraderie. I've had the same group I go with for years and we've got a guy that owns a cabin we all stay in. Nice to be in a place that's a little quieter than city life too.

Sorry for being late to the party, but I have question to full timers with long guns. How do you store them in your campers?

Store all my long guns under the sleeper sofa. There is a lot of space there.

I often bring a shotgun with on our journeys. I like to go to local trap or sporting clays clubs. In addition to under the bed and sleeper sofa, sometimes I will just slide them behind the heater seats. They are out of the way but easy to get to. And pretty hidden as well.

Good looking birds. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen a pheasant in central IL farm country in years. The coyotes (I’m assuming) have all but finished them off. Lots of them when I was a kid, and the landscape/habitat hasn’t changed since then. If anything, the farming practices leave more cover now than then.

My dad used to rabbit and quail hunt at farms about an hour outside St. Louis. While they look the same, the ditches and brushy fence rows that used to exist have been eliminated by modern farming. Those spaces have been used to squeeze in a couple more rows of crops and get more yield. The result is upland habitat has been all but destroyed.
