Truck Bed Toolbox for Sliding Hitch

I have a 2020 Ram Laramie Megacab (short bed) dually with a sliding hitch. I'm looking for a truck bed toolbox with gull wing lids so I can access the box when hooked up (and without climbing into to bed). Gull wing box lids open from the sides instead of the back.

I've seen a couple out on the market, but I'm hoping to get some actual user feedback before taking the plunge.

Have any of you short bed haulers some information to share?

    TIA

    Not gull wing type...
When turning sharply the nose gets right up to the cab.

If you know the clearance behind the slider there are som skinnt low profile ones. You will also need to know your bed rail clearance so in a turn the nose is over and not into the box.
Do a search for tool boxes that sit below the rails. Sometimes they are advertised bed cover friendly

I went with the "Bakbox 2" for my Bak Industries MX cover. Not the most robust of toolboxes (really it's a foldable tray) but it lets me fold it out of the way when I need more room in my bed. Also not too hard to remove if I had to.

It doesn't get that close to the cab with the sliding hitch. I want the gull wing so I can open the box with the 5er connected, and not have to climb in the bed to open it.

That looks interesting. Are the latches on the sides, or in the middle?

Interesting, really got me thinking. Thanks for this suggestion. I've already got their cover and love it. Also had one for 10yrs on my other trucks and it held up. I'm sure their box will too.

Many moons ago had a "gullwing" tool box. Got it at Schuck's Auto Parts (now O'Reilly's). The latches were on each side and always had trouble storing anything in the 48 inch or more range. Also don't lean over the door when you unlatch it.

Yeah, I've been smacked on the chin by one before. Not fun! I get that anything long might be difficult, but that's not why I want it. Mostly it'll be used to store roadside repair tools and emergency kit. I've got other stuff I want to store in it that I don't want to keep in the coach or inside the truck.

TBH, I'm getting too old to be climbing in the truck bed to reach a center latched box while the 5er is connected. In short, I'm lazy and admit it.🤣🤣

Oh, and congrats on what appear to be successful military careers. I was in USAF from 73-79. Our son in law recently completed a 23 year career with USMC.
