RV to Washington DC
We're planning a early Fall trip to DC and looking to use public transit into and out of the city. Any tips on close-in RV parks that are near train depots, buss lines, park-n-rides, etc.? We'd like to keep the pickup parked so we're not battling to find parking spots near the monuments and other sites. Thanks!

Cherry Hill RV Park in College Park, MD
Has a Metro Bus stop in the park and minutes from the metro which can take you right into downtown. Nothing closer in really and this park is top notch. Stayed there multiple times with the last time being 5 weeks after we moved out of our house. Very nice park.2019 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali Diesel DRW (Crew Cab | 8 Ft bed | OEM Puck System | Curt Gooseneck Ball for OEM Puck | Timbrens on rear axle)

I understand your apprehension about driving into DC. I suggest taking a train into Union Station in downtown DC. The station is within a reasonable walking distance to just about all the monuments and sights. If not a short Uber or Lyft ride gets you there. I know there is a station in Richmond, Va. near Short Pump and one at Manassas, Va. On the Maryland side there are many in the DC suburbs. Open a Google map of Washington DC area and search train stations. Maryland State Parks are among the nicer I have encountered. Smallwood and Cedarville are both close yet far enough away. If you are interested in Civil War history or Colonial Williamsburg and you want to explore that as well then staying in Virginia is a better bet.

Besides College Park (Cherry Hill RV Park) there are no other parks I am aware of with public transportation. There is a nice park about 40 minutes north of DC (without traffic 40 minutes ...) called Rambling Pines Campground. It is located off of Rt. 70 and Rt. 97 (rural area) about a 30 minute drive to Baltimore, 30 minute drive to Frederick. It is actually about 3 miles from where I live. Driving to (and parking at) the Metro in Silver Spring MD is not too bad - you can catch the Metro (subway) and go anywhere in DC you want to.

The Virginia Railway Express (VRE) runs down I95 from DC to Fredericksburg, Va. Trains run inbound to DC all morning and returns all afternoon/evening. Several campgrounds are within close drives to Fredericksburg VA.
If military Andrews AFB, MCB Quantico and Ft Belvoir all have Fam Camps and are closer to VRE or Metro train stations.2021 Reflection 340RDS

Another option if in the military or DoD is the Ft. Meade MD campground - very close to the Marc commuter train station that goes to DC.

We stayed there a while back. Nice park. You walk up to the front office and there is a bus stop there that gets you to the trains that get you to the National mall. Which was the main reason we went to DC.
We did drag the 5th wheel around the beltway when we were leaving for Virginia though. That was 'interesting'.2018 Dodge 3500 6.7 Cummins SRW w/Aisin
