Not at all hard. It’s a consumer version of the belt grinder that knife makers use.

    I have this one; https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001ABHAAQ/ref=emc_b_5_t

Simple to use, the guide drives the proper angle on the blade. This one is for 20 degree blades (German style); the make one for 15 (Japanese); and an adjustable that does both.

Great sharpener with close to no learning curve. I get it, someone that is skilled can do something a bit finer on some of the other tools out there; but this will get your knives sharp enough to cleanly slice paper. Great tool.

I have several of the "moon stick" sharpeners that are mounted in a holder with a guide, think they came from Smoky Mountain Knife Works. I keep one in my hunting pack, kitchen drawer, and in the camper. I make it a habit to hit any knife that I pick up a few swipes across the stones to maintain the edge.
I have found that once a knife gets dull, good-old hand sharpening with a stone while watching the angle, is the best way to get it back to sharp.

Thanks folks I found a great deal at my local BB&B store. on a Chef's Choice unit. Decided to buy local. If it does not work I can take it back.

    Appreciate all the help.
