    Solar powered refrigerator in Transcend

Has anyone had any experience with the new refrigerators that are powered by electric and/or solar power - not electric and propane as we are use to. If we have a choice, which type would you recommend - the electric/solar or the electric/propane?

Solar does not power, it only recharges batteries. Electric is either either AC or DC.

Not familiar with elect/solar but our last 5er and our current one has residential that run's off the inverter while towing. I have traveled 12 hrs. and no change in temps. Hope I never have to go back to elect/propane. We don't boondock so the residential works well for us.

Yeah, if you plug in all the time, should be good. The ones we saw used a 1000W inverter, so boondocking would require a lot of solar and batteries...

He's probably talking about the new DC compressor fridges. They run off of 12v natively and are compressor only. They sound ideal to me--far less power than a residential fridge but better performance and less fire risk than an absorbtion fridge. It's easily possible to generate enough solar to run one of these (which we all know really charges the battery and they run off the battery). My next RV (which is years from now) will have one.

The Transcends now have 12 volt compressor refers in them. No propane.

They all come standard with built in solar panel and controller. All Furrion brand.

How much power do they use?
Sounds better than the 1000W inverter style we rejected earlier this year.

Love the 12 volt. Our 35 ft sailboat has one which is bulletproof. Daily usage is about 45-50 ah, but of course it depends on insulation of the box.

i don't think the electric option on our absorbsion refrigerator cools nearly as efficiently as the electric option. I think I would miss that option.
