That is sad news. Two of the better coach manufacturers (Tiffin and Newmar) bought by two of the decidedly "less-better" RV manufacturers (Thor and Winnebago). It seems that when you build cheap and sell lots you accumulate the resources to buy the other companies that have worked harder at establishing good brand names by building better products. Then, you can capitalize on that good brand name you bought to build more cheap products. The only losers are the customers.

    So true.

Let’s not forget a good way to steal someone else’s techniques and technology to incorporate into lower end product. In the end Thor will want its profit and in turn find new ways to increase the numbers.

The article I read said Bob Tiffin initiated the deal. So maybe not so much of Thor "gobbling up" folks as folks that are (were) independents seeing a better way to get more operating capital to grow??

I would have thought Tiffin would be worth more than $300M but I'm far from a financial specialist. It is interesting that Bob Dylan's portfolio he recently sold is reported to be north of $400 to $500M. Who'd-a-thought it would be worth more than Tiffin.

I still think that like back in the early 1900's when car manufacturers were consolidating and/or went bust the RV industry is headed that way such that eventually there will be only a few major manufactures with many different brands and models. So far Forest River and Thor seem to be the big leaders.

Winnebago paid just $344 million for Newmar, which also seemed like a pretty good deal for Winnebago (I'm not an expert). They paid $500 million for Grand Design.

Maybe Tiffin sees only stars in its future but these things often become driven by the parent corp with a focus different from that of the entrepreneurs who started the companies purchased by the parent corp. For example some would assert that Grand Design has trimmed a lot from its quality and service heyday since Winnebago moved in.

Wonder how all the employees that sucked into Thor Industries from several companies are liking the changes.

Last time I worked for Corp America, the company got bought out and our benefits changed for the worse.

Hope employee benefits are the same or better for all those absorbed by Thor.

The only thing parent companies ever look for are increased profits from such a purchase.

That is very altruistic of you to think of them like that. Tiffin is based in Alabama which I don't think was by accident.

Please enlighten an ignorant Canadian. Without making it political, does Alabama have weaker labor / pension laws than other states?
