    Solar pannel cables and MC4 connections

    Good morning and Merry Christmas

    I researching a solar addition to my existing GoPower 160W system.

    No matter how I go I will need additional solar wiring and MC4 connections. Existing wiring on my existing panels is 10 gauge and based on the blue sea chart https://www.bluesea.com/resources/1437 10 gauge is good for the runs from the solar panels to the junction box and for about 10' to the controller from there. The combined panel output is about 28.4 A at maximum output The expansion kits come with short cables and MC4 connectors to tie into the existing cabling. However the panel leads are to short and need extending.

    Based on where I can actually mount the panels I will need 10 gauge solar wire cable extensions and MC4 connectors. There are lots of pre-made solar cables out there but $$$. Amazon appears to have a great collection of MC4 connectors and solar wires. My new crisper will work with the pins in the MC4 connectors so I thought I could make up my own cables, and not have excess coiled up.

    I know the cables need to be rated for sun exposure. What are the good brands? Also there is a huge selection of MC4 fittings out there. I don't want junk, so what brands are good?

    Also the dealer ran the wires down beside the vent stack through the base boot. I was thinking of mounting a new base plate. https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories.../34276245.html

    Thanks for any help.

    Hi Keith,
    I had to add connectors for my setup, but I used the Renogy cabling that came with the kit. I used these;

    and these;

    Maybe someone will chime in with cabling suggestions.

    On a previous install I used this;

    Good luck!
