Need a fix
Since new my mounting plate on my pin box has about a 6° slant on it. Makes for a bit of a challenge to hitch up. I googled Trail Air and read about installation. Says it should be installed level. I've tried loosening the two bolts and still couldn't get it to budge. I mentioned it to the dealer when we took delivery (2 years ago) he said it wasn't adjustable. Any way, how's everyone else's?? Level or slanted down??

Jim,
Is there enough clearance in the pin box bolt holes to move just the rear down or just the front up one hole ?

It's level on ours too. You could try calling LCI Customer Support and put the question to them.
Rob...the fit on the pin box mounting bolts is tight...difficult just getting the bolts in place.

Well, I took the plate completely off. The hard rubber cushion did not sit flat on the top of the plate. It rested up on the corners where the plate was welded together. I trimmed the rubber corners and got about 1° back, not near enough. I started checking the level ness of the entire pin box. It was level were it's mounted to the trailer and off by 5° or 6° where the plate mounts. My conclusion is the pin box was not leveled/squared when made.

What you may try is to loosen the 6 bolts on each side where the pin bolts to the frame and tilt the pin up if there is any slack in the 6 bolts on each side.

We have a 2015 379FL and our pin box is perfectly level. The only thing I don't like about the pin box is that it clunks when you step on the gas and then touch the brakes. It rocks back and forth but still stays level when disconnected.

Hi jstitan2014,
Is it possible that the clunking is coming from your hitch rather than the pin box ?
We have a Reese and when it was brand new, we would get a stick/slip situation in the new paint at several different connection points. We have a slider, so had to add that small movement as well. Three key joints would each move less than 1/32 of an inch. The resultant total of about 1/8" would stick and then move all together resulting in a clunk in either direction. The fix was simple. A liberal application of grease to all these pin connections and the clunk was completely gone. Everything is moving within its tolerance but is now moving easily and independently. Things have been quiet for thousands of miles and the paint in the joints has worn away, but I do reapply the grease every couple of months.

I think that this is more likely from your hitch, not the pin box. I had similar experience from the Reese Pro Slide hitch...no noise now with a B&W Patriot fixed hitch.

It's not the Hitch. I have a Pullrite slider hitch that never made noise on the last 5th wheel. However, I did notice that the capture plate was loose and you can rock it back and forth. I believe it's the wrong plate to boot. The dealership installed a #60 which is for this hitch but for the wider one. I measured and it looks I'm supposed to have the #56 on there. I will be calling the makers of both the slider hitch and the one on the RV with all of the part numbers that I could find.
