    Cost saving on Propane

On multiple occasions I have read threads which mentioned that Propane was cheaper
at Tractor Supply. Today I decided to try Tractor Supply. They sell by the gallon not the pound
    which I find confusing.

Long story short my Propane cost was approx. half the cost at my Propane dealer and more than
half at swap out tank stores.

They sell by the pound where I am. 20 pound tank, 30 pound etc. If it's not empty they weigh it and tell you how many pounds you pay for.

All of the exchanges (Blue Rhino, etc) are by the lb, IIRC. 15lbs of propane in each tank I seem to remember. They underfill them compared to capacity which is why they don't sell a "full tank".

Yep, they are shorting you by .25 of a gallon.

These tanks are only allowed to be filled to 80% because of expansion. That works out to 3.8 gallons (4.2 pounds per gal) but you are only getting 3.571.

I have never trusted the exchange.

I see you are from somewhere in Oregon.

Central Oregon has much cheaper prices on propane. Especially Redmond, Oregon. Oregon Feed & Irrigation is at the North end of town on 97. $1.49 a gallon

CoEnergy Propane is the distributor in Redmond and at their store propane goes for the same price as the feed store. CoEnergy Propane is at the south end of town.

Most places that sell propane in western Oregon sell it for $2.49 to $2.89 or higher.

Wow! I thought filling up at Tractor Supply for $2.99 a gallon was a good deal!

Do you look for deals on propane when you travel? Any recommendations?

CoEnergy is our home propane supplier and does refills at their store in Albany OR. The cost at Coastal is $1.89 per gal.
