2020 Solitude 310GK-R Hot Water Heater Anode Replacement After 1 Year - See PIC

After one year full time, today replaced hot water heater anode (Suburban brand water heater). Anode has seen water in these states: Ind, TN, FL, SC, NC, TX, NM, AZ, Col, Utah and Ala. Yep, I'd say the recommendation to replace in one year is valid. See PIC.Click image for larger version.

I agree, once a year is a good plan. Mine looked like that or worse after one season of camping around New York.

That has another year left in it, at least.

When you get to the steel core, then it's time to replace.

They area cheap enough though for yearly replacement.

That’s still got a lot of life left in it, the central core isn’t showing yet.

I'll echo others and say that you had lots of life left in that anode; likely another year at least. The core of that rod mentioned by others is less than half of the diameter shown in your picture... there's loads of anode material left on it.

Worth checking one or two times per year but not necessary to replace it unless it's well-consumed.

Interesting. Didn't realize you could use it until you see the core rod. It was pretty pitted that didn't show well in the pic. Thanks for the information. Benny

It's a sacrificial piece so you use it until it is gone basically. I typically get 5 or 6 years out of an anode.

I agree at one year the anode rod pictured is still in pretty good shape and could go longer before replacement. While at one year ours typically is about the same, I typically replace at one year because if I go through the process of removing the anode rod for inspection and considering a replacement is inexpensive, why not just replace it with a new one?
