    recommendation needed

Need a recommendation for a great waste tank treatment. We have are RV parked inside a heated shop and are living there for the time being, while building our new home. The problem is we can't seem to get more than three days out of the waste tank treatment products we have been using, before the smell is bad. Tanks are seldom more than a1/3rd full. Product must be septic friendly, we are hooked up to shop septic tank.

    Thanks!!!

Have you tried the Happy Campers treatment? It is an organic, it is powder, can be used in both black and grey tanks. We switched to it last summer and I think it works great.

Tank treatments arent required. We just use plenty of water in the blank tank after we dump it and it's never been an issue in any of our past RVs we have owned. Just because a product is sold, doesnt make it necessary.

Are you smelling the odor inside the rv or inside the building? I can see where there would be an odor from the vent stack for the tanks , which will become trapped inside the building. I’m not sure any treatment is going to eliminate that , only proper external venting will.

Just adding to what has already been said... we are full-timers and have never used tank additives - just dump, rinse well, and put about 5 gallons of clean water in the black tank when finished. I would echo the thought about where you're smelling things - inside or out? If inside, check the air admittance valves (AAVs) under the sinks. Those are a frequent source of bad smells inside the rig if they fail or are loose. If outside, the building needs better venting.

Probably a silly question but, are you keeping your valves closed until ready to dump, then only dump when the tanks are at least half-full? The reason that I ask is that you said that you were hooked up to your sewer in the shop. You’ll still want to keep the valves closed. You probably know all of this but, if you leave them open, all of the “liquids” run out and the “solids” stay put, eventually building an ugly pile in the bottom of the tank. If you have left the valves open and have “the pile”, that could be the source of the odor.

We like Pure Power Blue by Valterra. You can get it as either a liquid or bio drop-in pouches. Haven't had any order problems since we started using. Well, at least related to the black tank. We did have the air admittance valve go bad under the bathroom sink. I think it was even worse than the order from the black tank !
