Momentum 380TH Electrical Management System Question

Well, we finally picked up the trailer! Fortunately, no major issues with the PDI, we've camped in it a few times, and we've got a real shakedown cruise scheduled. However, I have one question on the electrical system:

The trailer comes with a mini-EMS (Electrical Management System) - but from everything I can tell from the owners' manual, it only helps determine what runs when we have less than 50A power. It doesn't appear to have any surge protection/other poor electricity protection, so I'm looking at a Progressive Industry EMS. However, those things are expensive and I'd rather not buy something that's not necessary/will interfere with something already in the trailer. Any help would be much appreciated!

    Hi Glacier and Kermode Bruin

Tell your owners that they really should consider a "higher end" surge protector.

After watching a Florida lighting storm all around us . . . and realizing that many RVs around us had these things . . . We thought . . . maybe there is a reason for these ?!
Over the last two months, this device has shut down our power twice . . . both times for LOW voltage on one side of the 50 amp service. Low voltage is as dangerous for motors (like AC) as high voltage.
Easy to use "in line" with your shore power cord and a small cost when you consider what you are protecting.

I have hard wired a progressive industries EMS on all of my trailers.
Some may disagree but that is some of the best insurance you can invest in for your rig.
No worries when you plug in.

Does the transfer switch for the Generator provide surge protection? I thought they did. I will have to get out my manual and see what it says.

Cate&Rob: The EMS includes surge protection, and also helps during brownouts, improperly wired shore power, etc.
tmm2good: I can't find any indication that it does, but again, we're interested in a little more than just surge protection.

    All- thanks for the inputs!

No. It is just a transfer switch. And when I installed my PI EMS I checked the transfer switch and two wires were very loose.

I'd suggest that you look at Progressive Industries EMS either portable or hard wired... here's the link... http://www.progressiveindustries.net/ems_hw50c.htm

Either are just over $300 at Tweetys.
