    regular tires

maybe a silly question...can you run E or G rated LT tires instead of trailer specific tires?

Yes, with caution. The side wall aspect ratio may change which will increase your tire diameter. The clearance between the top and your trailer may get smaller which may or may not be an issue. That is the caution part. Maintaining tread width and wheel size is necessary to fit your existing wheels. Tire rack has a very good technical library that explains most of the tire specification.

Some do - not recommended by most. The tire and sidewall construction are different between ST and LT tires with the trailer tires being designed and built with stiffer sidewalls to handle the forces trailers put on them. There was a period 10 - 20 years ago when a lot more people were using LT tires on RVs because decent ST tires were just not available. There is a much better selection of ST tires, now, and no reason to run LT tires on an RV any more.
