Still no Wood carvers or Burners ??

We have had amazing growth here on the forum and find it hard to believe still no Carvers or Pyrographers?

Here is the post I made when this section was first created.

I always wondered where your "handle" originated - now I know. We burn wood... but mostly in fire rings.

WhittleBurner - so I won't claim that I'm great at either carving or burning, I'm learning chip carving and I do a lot of wood burning in conjunction with my wood turning...does that qualify? :-)

Yes, I'd say it does. Chip carving looks like it would be easy but I learned quickly it takes just as much talent, practice and persistence as any other type of carving. I'm still trying to get those angles right

We're at weight capacity for our rig, but I wish I could figure out how to fit my Jet mini-lathe in our travels! Maybe just carving and texturing items that I've already turned will be enough - or maybe I learn to be a better carver? Definitely getting the angles right on chip carving is taking a bit of time behind a knife, but the mess is pretty easy to clean up by comparison to turning and can be done inside (unlike burning).

I struggle to draw a "stick figure" on a piece of paper......cutting wood with a knife probably wouldn't be in my best interest!

The cool thing about chip carving is that you can find a lot of patterns to work off of....but if you don't have good eye/hand coordination and start into carving anyways, you should at least be good at applying steri-strips.
