    Imagine 2910BH Tow Vehicle

My wife and I have recently purchased a 2910BH and are towing it with a 2019 Yukon. We have found very very quick that we have pushed the limits of our Yukon and are now shopping for a good used truck. I’m curious what others are towing their 2910 with. For those who don’t know and want to give their thoughts, dry weight of the trailer is 7063lbs. We probably about about 1000lbs loaded in it (yes, I know I need to get it weighed). We are weekend worries, so we don’t have it over stuffed like fulltimers, so I’m confident it’s about 1000lbs. So I’d say it’s very safe to say it’s not over 8500lbs. The big debate is 1/2 ton vs 3/4 ton. Obviously 3/4 is hands down the best, but is it needed? Thanks all!

A properly equipped 1/2 ton will do fine. You need to check payload to make sure that you have enough and then use a very good WDH with built in sway control such as a Reese Straightline that I have used for 14 years now. They also need to be dialed in properly for best performance. Yes a 2500 will work better but any of the 1/2 tons with enough payload will work very good too.

Yes a three-quarter ton truck will be much better. At 8500 pounds you were pushing the upper limits for a half ton so that when you’re driving you will feel more comfortable. Yes a newer half ton truck can work if specked out properly.

Another thing to consider, get a long wheelbase truck. Much better than a short wheelbase like the standard Yukon is. Used to pull a 24 foot travel trailer behind a Yukon years ago. It only weighed about 6000 lbs., and it was at its limits.

I would go for at least a 3/4 ton, but also consider a 1 ton in case you decide to upgrade the trailer. A 1/2 ton wont gain you much over a Yukon. My wife's Expedition has a payload rating of about 1300 lbs and the last 1/2 ton truck I had only had about 200lbs more payload than the Expedition. The truck was rated to tow more, but usually payload runs out first which is calculated by subtracting actual weight from the GVWR. You might be disappointed with only going to a 1/2 ton truck unless you can find the unicorn F150 that has the heavy duty payload package (not to be confused with the max tow package, it's not the same).

2910BH. How many people and how much gear are you hauling? The only half ton I know that has the payload capacity you need is a F150 with the HDPP.

I would go with a 3/4 ton or SRW 1-ton. It’ll be night and day vs even a properly equipped 1/2 ton truck. If you go with a 3/4 ton, check the available payload as some have really low payload if they’re not optioned right. You also may want to check the difference in registration fees between 3/4 and 1-ton trucks, 1-ton trucks are expensive to register in some areas.

We have the 2800BH, which is about 1000 pounds lighter and tow with an Expedition with HD tow (rated at 9200 lb) and a 2020 f150 4x4, v8 LB supercrew. It tows the 2800BH a lot better. Even my previous f150 (2018 with 2.7 eco) did a little better job than the expy and it was rated about the same. SUVs are more prone to being jerked around because of their shorter wheel base - in my view. The 2910 you bought is one I have been considering as well and consider my latest F150 to be about maxed out on that one, knowing an f250 would be better. But I prefer comfort and convenience for the 90 percent of the time I am using my truck without a trailer.
