Question TPMS transmitters and valve stems

    Hi Everyone - -

I continue to look at TPMS options.

I have seen a couple of mentions by folks that you should change out original valve stems to metal ones or risk the transmitter weight eventually damaging the rubber stems.

    Fact or Fiction??

    Thanks!!

Fact, it's physics. Centripetal force puts added strain on the rubber valve stems. The fact that they are mounted at an angle to the rotation imparts an outward force to the stem.

Here is the link I was looking at:

Depends on the manufacturer. If you go with the flow through from TST they say to replace them to metal with the regular your ok with the rubber ones. Keep in mind that the puck style sensors are a little wide and will lean on the rim as the ride spins. The flow through are not as wide and are longer. Once you select which system you want check what that company says.

Fact for me. I had the rubber stem start to come out after a couple of thousands miles. No more problems after going to metal stems.
