    Low point drain valves

As noted in another thread on insulating the low point drains, I encountered the "plugs" used by Grand Design on the low point drains this weekend. Not real impressed!

Anyone on the forum replaced theirs? If so, kindly share the resources as I'm looking at options.

    Thanks in advance.

Thank you, I like the concept. As to insulating, I think that thread was in the General Discussion section, not specific to a particular line of trailers.

    Thanks again.

    Hi Tom,

Similar idea here, with valves to replace the OE caps.
I have had these freeze, but a couple of minutes with a hair dryer solved this.

WRT the sideways pictures . . . I had this problem using pictures from an iPhone and posting with a PC. I had to figure out which orientation of the phone created a picture that would be correct when posted . . . there is one .
After switching to a Mac, the problem went away . . . over to someone more computer savy than I am, to explain that part.

Thank you Rob! I'll go rummage through Home Depot (or a plumbing supply store?) this weekend and see what I find.

Going to do the same mod myself. Shame on GD to cheap out on something so simple and cheap.

That PEX is great stuff. It will freeze, of course, but it won't burst. I was under my 297RSTS taking the plugs out of my low point drains and noticed there are two sets, one set up forward and another set very near the fresh water tank dump valve. What is the deal with the second set?

Is it a pair of red and blue tubes, or just one blue? If one blue, it is likely the vent/overflow for the fresh water tank.

Had a dickens of a time finding the valves. At first, didn't know to refer to them as "boiler drain valves." I found those on a 2nd trip to Home Depot once I knew the description to ask for. Near, but in a different area than the rest of the plumbing connectors and valves. Pressurized the lines with air, sprayed soapy water, look to have good seals and ready for my next trip New Year's weekend.

I got 1/2in cpvc quarter turn ball valves and 1/2 male adapters. Works like a top and cost a whole $8.

I used 1/2" Pex to 3/8" compression brass 1/4 turn valves. Easy to find and also about $8 for the pair. See earlier picture.
