Montana here we come - sewer hookups

We will be camping with full hook ups for the first time in June. One of the rules of the campground states "please be sure you maintain a positive sewer seal at both ends of the sewer hose". Does this mean we just keep our tank valves closed until full and time to dump?

We mostly just drive to the mountains, pull off somewhere, and bookdock, so I'm not certain what this means. We will be staying in a campground in Livingston Montana. Can't wait as this will be a bucket-list trip for us.

It's good practice to leave the valves shut anyway. It means you either need a sewer donut or an elbow that threads into the sewer pipe. Some campgrounds maintain their pipes well and the threads of the pipe are clean, otherwise, there is a rubber donut that slides on the end of the elbow to create a seal, but you usually need to put a weight on top of the elbow to ensure it doesnt fall out.

    Norma,

Your topic really has to do with plumbing and wastewater and not a specific destination, so I moved the thread to Plumbing and Water Systems (I also added a little to the title so it would be clear to folks what you're talking about.)
