Dodge diesel gas mileage
I'm considering purchasing either a 2014 or 2015 2500 Dodge diesel 6.7 CC/Mega cab LB SRW 4x4 or 2x4. Can anyone tell what kind of mileage can I expect with this truck when towing a 369RL? Thanks!

Hey Jim...can't answer your question about mileage but I'm wondering why you wouldn't be looking at a 3500 SRW as it will have about 1000# more payload?

Hi Jim - I second Dave's comment about looking at the 3500 to get more payload. You'll find that they are not priced that differently than the 2500. I've talked mileage with other owners many times, and it appears that the Chevys, Fords and Dodges all get about the same when towing. I averaged 11.7 mpg towing my Reflection over 10K miles. That was a combination of mountains and flat land driving. I imagine if you might get just a little bit less since your Solitude is probably a bit heavier than my Reflection. But then the terrain you're towing in and your driving habits will all come into play. I wouldn't be surprised if you averaged 11-12 mpg most of the time.

I'll third the comment on the 3500. I'm not sure a 3/4 ton by any of the big 3 is enough truck for a 369 from a numbers standpoint.

I get a little over 10 with my 2500 with my 317. But it is not broken in yet. I have less that 5000 miles on the truck and about 1000 miles on the 317.

For what I understand the mileage shouldn't differ between a 2500 and a 3500 SRW as drive train wise, they're identical and that the max towing numbers are also identical. Usually the rear end gearing changes (higher numerically) when you go to a 3500 DRW and it will have a higher max towing rating.

Often, with the same gearing and engine, a 2500 will "tow" the same amount of weight as a 3500. The difference is in "payload" which is the amount of weight the truck can support (ie pin weight, cargo, passengers). When you go to a dually, the gearing is even lower than a SWR which increases the weight it can "tow" and the dual rear wheels dramatically increases the amount of "payload" it can carry.

I just ordered a '15 dodge 3500 Laramie DRW 4x4. My research showed 18-20 mpg empty and 11-13 pulling. I did order the 4.10 rear end, so I may get a little less, but I will be able to pull anything comfortably!! Next step is the 369RL.

Go with the dually and a 2015 model, if available. The above mentioned mpg appears normal as far as I can tell.
