what is to long or to heavy for a SRW
We are thinking of moving up to a fifth wheel and are considering the 337RLS. I realize a move to a diesel will be necessary. I do not want a dually under any circumstance. I know this is a loaded question so please only answer with your experience with what you are using or have used. We are currently towing a 297 RSTS which is about 34 ft.

We have a 337RLS being towed by a 2020 Ford F-350:SRW Lariat Diesel Crew Cab Short Bed. The limiting weight is Payload. The truck is a highly optioned Lariat except it doesn’t have sun roof.
Payload is about 3500 lbs. I’ve had 3 F350s and current special ordered 2020 F-350 has a payload of 3484 lbs. my others 2017 & 2019 were 3500 lbs and 3523 lbs. neither had a sunroof.
Here are real world weights
2,800 lbs pin weight loaded for travel
450 lbs = 2 adults plus dog and parrot in cabin
37 lbs Andersen Ultimate 5th wheel hitch
71 lbs Backflip F1 bed cover
50 lbs misc stuff in truck bed (bedrug, safety cones etc)
————-
3,408 lbs so we are just under payload capacity.
The Andersen hitch at 37 lbs is 200 lbs lighter than most other 5th wheel hitches. We love the Andersen.
I installed disc brakes on the reflection which was a huge improvement in stopping power.

Thanks! I know you get more payload with the LB. I won't need that much payload. I'm more concerned about how the SB handles length versus LB.

The following is information for forum members, especially those with a 2020 F-350 6.7 diesel Super Duty truck. About one year ago, I purchased a 2020 F350 Platinum 6.7 Diesel LB SRW. The labeled Payload capacity is 4,561pounds. Big payload capacity for a SRW. I specifically purchased this Ford over a Chevy 3500 I had on order that had a Payload capacity just under 3,800 pounds. Yesterday I learned Ford issued a recall to update the truck labeling that “overstates” Payload and GVWR. I called Ford Customer Assistance and my dealership and could not find out the impact to my truck’s Payload/GVWR. Basically Ford told me I would have to wait until I received my notice the week of April 6th. If the impact is substantial, I’m not sure what my next steps might be. There’s a longer backstory on the Chevy I had on order and how I ended up with Ford F-350 but it does not matter here. Below is a portion of Ford’s recall notice:
“Safety recall for select 2020 Ford F-Series Super Duty vehicles with 6.7-liter engines for labels with incorrect payload information
Affected vehicles display overstated payload capacity values on the tire and loading information label, overstated accessory reserve capacity values on the safety certification label, and overstated weight values on the truck camper loading documentation. If the vehicles are loaded to the payload stated on the tire and loading information label, they may exceed the gross vehicle weight rating or gross axle weight rating. This may result in tire loading beyond rated capacity, suspension overload and increased stopping distance, which could increase the risk of a crash.
This action affects 9,979 2020 Ford F-Series Super Duty vehicles in the U.S. and federal territories and 1,750 in Canada. They were built at Kentucky Truck Plant from May 13, 2019 to, Sept. 19, 2020.”Bruce & Whitney

I am reading that as the payload number they put is wrong (math problems), or the scale they used was off by some amount, and if you actually used the payload number they have on the sticker, you may exceed the GVWR or axle ratings. I don't see anything in that info saying the 12,400 weight is wrong, or the axle rating on the sticker is either. Go to a CAT scale and put her on it, than you will know what your payload is, and you can see what, if any impact there is. The scale number you do is what your payload has always been, even before this recall since the GVWR and axle ratings are correct.
Heck, if I used my sticker payload, I would be 250 lbs. over GVWR.Last edited by Wileykid; 02-26-2021 at 03:39 PM.

Just a quick follow-up to my post above. The change in payload capacity is a reduction of 549 pounds. The original labeled payload capacity was 4,561 pounds and with the revised labels from Ford, it is now 4,012 pounds. I suspect most 2020 F350 owners with a comparable setup will see a similar reduction. I have been in contact with several groups at Ford, including my dealer, and i’m exploring remedies. Ford proper at this time is not offering any specific remedy besides changing the labels.

Let me start out by saying it's not about length - it's about weight and especially pin weight for the trailer and true payload capacity for the truck.
We spent our first 4-1/2 years full-time in a Reflection 337. We started out with a GMC Sierra 2500HD CC SB with the Duramax/Allison power train. The Reflection never scaled with less than 3,000 lbs. on the pin (no washer/dryer but did have the front AC). It usually came in around 3,100 lbs. pin weight. This is with full propane but nothing in any of the waste tanks (the fresh water tank is over the rear axle on the 337, so it doesn't really affect pin weight). We were never more than 60 lbs. over the sticker payload on the truck and still had rear axle and tire capacity to spare (several hundred pounds). With Timbrens on the truck and a dampened pin box, the rig handled very well... most of the time. On curvy mountain roads there was an "on-the-edge" feeling to the handling and stability. When we were presented with the opportunity to trade even for a dual rear wheel 1-ton truck of equal value, we jumped on it. There is a noticeable difference and I'm no longer worried about what would happen if I had a rear tire failure on the truck at highway speed. It also gave us the additional payload capacity to move up to our Solitude when the time came.
