I don’t think it’s that easy to buy used. We were looking for a very specific model and to be fair in Canada the amount of used kicking around is slim if you looking for just a very specific floor plan. The only way for me to get the unit I wanted was new.
At this moment if I look on the classifieds in my province there is only maybe half a dozen used GD trailers. Of those 6 they aren’t anything we want. And in our case we want a mid bunk so the chances just keep going down.2021 GMC 3500HD

If the market is reasonably efficient, then you get what you pay for. Simple as that. So if you buy new, you get things that you won't get if you buy used. Maybe that's important to you, or maybe the potential savings are enough to offset the risk. Everyone ought to quit trying so hard to justify their own choice and respect that everyone's situation is different, and everyone has different metrics and priorities, so the decision they make is only correct for them. Buy what you want.

The best way to deal with depreciation is just buy exactly what you want to begin with and live with that decision. Keep it maintained and store it under a roof if possible. You only suffer depreciation when you sell or trade it. Just keep it and be satisfied. I see so many people buying boats and RV's then four years later want something bigger or different. I've always kept all of my boats and RV's stored under roof out of the sun and weather. This will net you more money when it's sold. Buying used is undoubtedly the best way to go if you can find what you want.

I've never bought a new trailer or truck camper until I turned 60 last year.
For the reasons you state, cost. And the fact that I refused to finance anything that had such a huge depreciation like an RV. So, I paid cash for used ones. Saved a ton. Gave lifetime memories to our two boys raising them with our used campers and boats.
I retired in my 50's because the only payment I ever had was a house payment and I paid cash for everything else! Dad's advise was "if you can't pay cash, then you should save up so you can, no sense in paying interest on depreciation toys." We provided our kids everything they needed but not necessarily everything they WANTED.
Since retiring I've paid cash for a new home in Montana, a new boat, new 5th wheel RV, new Jet skis, and a used Truck Camper. The toys obviously have the high depreciation, but it doesnt matter to us. They are the last toys we'll enjoy while we are still young and able to get around! Our sons will inherit them when we're finished using these all.Last edited by Sportsdad60; 03-06-2021 at 05:58 AM.

This is absolutely the best advice I have ever read on this or any forum!!!! It's exactly how I have lived my life and it worked for me. Retired at 58 and now at 74 the only thing I worry about is the price of gas and the availability of campsites. We made do with what we had, enjoyed life as it came at us and never ever financed a boat or rv. If you can't pay cash then you don't need it!!!
