Agreed . So sad and so unnecessary.
    Dying alone is unfathomable.

Just about to cross 550K, but things are really starting to look better as we go forward. Really cranking out the vaccinations now (I finally get mine on Saturday, yay!), I think summer is going to be a whole lot more relaxed this year than last. It will be interesting to see how many of the changes stick around for a while. Obviously the pandemic-response measures like social distancing and masking and such will mostly fade into memory, but perhaps the folks who've been working remotely for the past year will stay that way. Or at least not go back to the office full-time. Maybe restaurant delivery will become even more of a regular thing. Stuff like that.

All considered, I am optimistic that 2021 is going to be a lot better year than 2020. Admittedly, that's a low bar... ;-)

Well that is 550k died with covid and CDC reports about 10k died from covid. That number is also bad, but it is not the 550k; When someone has end stage lung disease, cancer, heart disease and they get a cold and die they are listed as a cause of death the primary disease process. But now, as happened in Colorado, a man dies with a blood alcohol over 500 and the coroner listed cause of death as alcohol poisioning but he was tested as positive for covid and listed as a covid death until the coroner refused to change the original cause of death.

So what are you trying to say the 550k is inflated based on one example?

no. CDC repoted deaths from Covid. If Rush Limbaugh had tested positive he most likely would have been a Covid death. There is a difference between dying of a disease and with a disease.

This is a common misunderstanding. You get to the 10K number by excluding everyone with a comorbidity. In the US, for example, this means that you are not counting 42.4% of the population just due to obesity alone. Do you consider that obesity is a terminal illness which is likely to kill them this year if not for COVID?

What you really want to consider is excess mortality. That is, how many more people died from any cause in 2020 than would be expected. Preliminary analysis puts that number at something more than 400,000.

In Canada the restrictions and lockdowns have caused more death than Covid. It actually isn’t even close
I am sure the USA is similar

Suicides and elective surgeries being canceled as well as cancer screening halted is accounting for many deaths

I cannot speak for Canada, but in the US the portion of excess mortality that cannot be attributed directly to COVID is 1/3.
