    2015 Momentum 380th axles

The specification sheet on this unit indicates three axles. Mine only has two axles rated 8 K lbs each. The GVWR is 19500 lbs. Should this unit have three axles?

Depends on your pin weight. If you have a GVWR of 19.5k lbs with 2x8k lbs axles, then it's assumed you'll have at least 3.5k lbs on your truck's drive axle. That seems heavy for a tandem axle, but I'm unfamiliar with your model.

We almost bought a 2015 380TH. The dealer had one on consignment and made a great offer. The owner said no, but the dealership stood by the offer on a new 2016 380TH. Both had the exact same floorplan. The décor was nicer in the 15.
I think the late '15's had 3 axles like the '16's. The '16's had cheaper tires ( E rated 16 in.) and the 15 has 17.5 H rated.

I also think the older models were built better with no corners being cut.

Look at you data tag. It looks like this. This fact on your rig.

This is from a '15 for sale in AZ. KEN

Did you know about the hidden storage?
On some 380TH's the left and right panels around the fireplace open. If not, it's easy to put hinges on them.
The top area around the fireplace should flip down.

    Check it out. KEN

I think that is why the later 15s had triple axles (the pin weight on the tandem was very high to stay within trailer axle ratings.)

All Momentums were originally 2 axles for the first 2 years.

The big boys (like yours) were 8000lb axles with the 17.5 H range wheels and tires. Minimum pin weight was over 3500lbs on them. That is how you get your 19,500 GVW.

Shortly there after, GD switched to 3 axles because consumers had a hard time making the numbers work in their heads with 2 axles.

Lots of luxury 5th wheels still do the same thing.....Heartland Landmark for example.
