    Question Raising the Hitch Plate

I need to raise my hitch platform (Reese Elite 18K, non-slider) to achieve the 6" bed rail to nose clearance.

    My questions are:

    - Can I do this without removing the legs from the pucks? In other words, support the center section with a floor jack, unbolt the four leg to center section bolts, jack up the center section, replace bolts?

    - If I have to remove the hitch, how easy is it to lay down to work on, then get it back upright and maneuvered back in to position to re-attach the tabs in the pucks? Or should I plan on doing this on a day when #1 son is off work, so he can come over and help lift? I don't want to end up with the hitch upside down in the bed.

    Thanks,

    Dave

    Hi Dave,

Dig out the owners manual that came with your hitch . . . or find one online.
I have a different Reese hitch but I expect it is similar. There are a couple of pins that release the skid plate so you can easily get at the height adjustment bolts. I would suggest doing this with the hitch in the truck so that when you are done, the attachments to the truck are still properly aligned.

    Thanks Rob.

I have the manuals, fortunately. It wasn't clear to me if I could get a torque wrench on the bolts without removing the hitch. It sounds like, once I remove the four bolts, just a couple of pumps on the floor jack should bring the center section up to the next level.
