31MB Extra Bunk Mod

We love our Reflection 31MB, but with a family of 3 children, 1 gets left out of the bunk room and has to sleep on the dinette fold down bed. It’s always a revolving treat who gets the bunk room with the kids’ TV bonus, so to make it more equitable we added a pull out “trundle” bed.

One kid gets the top bunk, the other two share the bottom mega bed and sleep perpendicular to the trailer with their feet towards the TV. (Not pictured is a curtain we added running the width of the bottom of the top bunk to separate the mega bed into 2 separate berths.)

The front of the trundle has 2 legs with Harbor freight 3” caster wheels. The underside of the back has 3 1” roller-ball wheels that rest on the plywood of the bottom bunk. It’s all made of wood and then wrapped it with brown vinyl to match. In travel mode it just barely fits between the opposing drawers. The original plan was to use 3 wheels in the front, but I soon realized the middle post and wheel would interfere with drawer usage.

I tried matching the teddy bear mattress, but found a 70.5”x28/30” to be $300. 2 “dog beds” off Amazon were $20/ea and double as cushions when not in bed mode.

We are looking at a 31MB, we like it but one of our requirements is to have two larger beds for the kids. They are tired of the little bunks they have now.

I am thinking I should be able to get creative and extend that top bunk slightly so it is the same size as the bottom.

When I looked at it in person there was room to go out more and still wouldn’t interfere with it lifting should we ever need to.

Being an owner of a 31MB and doing the mod you showed here. Do you feel this would be possible? I looked at the 31MB in person on lot. Decided to take my wife back to see it in person and it was gone just that fast! LOL.

You could definitely extend the top bunk a few inches in width, it might interfere when folding it up, but honestly I don’t think we’ve ever folded the top bunk up. We always leave the top in the down position.
