Furrion 3100 DVD / Stereo - Sound Adjustments and a Speakers

As others have pointed out upon receipt of the 303 I was less than impressed with the Furrion 3100. After reading through the instructions and a bit of investigation I found that it has a few features to improve sound quality. There are settings from the remote that allow user equalizer settings and also a loud button. It was trial an error to get the loud button to work. The result was a full sound. I further enhanced sound quality by the replacement of the ceiling speakers with Infinity coaxial 6.5 speakers.

It's not an Alpine or Kenwood however pretty good.

I used 6 1/2 inch Round Speakers. I only needed to drill new attachment wholes. In addition the affinity speakers allowed me to used the white factory speaker covers.

Happily I was able to connect the TV to the DV 3100 using a 3.5mm cable with male connects on both end. The Haier 39 inch TV has a headset jack and the DV 3100 has an AUX in located on the front. Connect the 2, set the stereo to AUX and the TV sound will play through the overhead speakers. This setup plays over the air, cable and Bluray through the stereo.

The only thing you have to watch is to make sure the TV volume doesn't exceed the Stereo volume or you will get an intermittent crackling sound. if it occurs turn down the TV volume and increase the stereo. The sound is much better (the speakers have been changed as well).

I took a different approach that will work for many. I replaced the TV with a 4K TV that was a little larger. I shifted the mounting bracket an inch or so higher. I got a decent soundbar with wireless subwoofer and rear speakers that connect to the wireless sub. I put the skinny sound bar under the new slightly raised 4K tv. I had a small counter area under the tv to set it on, so I just needed a couple sticky velcro strips to hold in place. I put the wireless sub and rear speakers behind the theater seats. There is already power there. I added a Blu-ray player and redid some wiring behind the fireplace, which is easy to remove. The Furrion has RCA sound out ports, so I can use my sound system with the TV and Furrion sound output like the radio. BTW my pet peeve is using a DVD player with a 1080p HD TV. Here's why: Draw an imaginary vertical and horizontal line in the middle to divide your screen into quarter sections. Your DVD populates the pixels in only 1 of those quarter and the TV duplicates them to fill the screen. The Blu-ray populated EVERY pixel, plus has significantly enhanced audio. Anyway, that is my 3 cents worth.
