flipping the axles on a 260RD

Hello All. Hope this is the right thread. We're picking up our 260RD 5th wheel next week and I'm getting concerned that my 2018 Ram 2500's tailgate is too high - 60 inches. My question is, if it's necessary can I flip the axles on the 260RD or are they already flipped? If they are flipped is there anything else I can do to keep the trailer somewhat level? Thanks for the help, John.

If they are the same as the axles in my 297RSTS they are already flipped. There is a lift kit that you can use to raise the trailer. Lippert has a lift kit that I have linked to below. GD had to use this on my 297RSTS as the 16" tires didn't have enough clearance.

The U bolts U part is below the axle, not sure if that is 'flipped' or not.
OP won't really know if it is an issue until the loaded truck squats, then measure clearance. A fully loaded 5W will squat the truck a bit more...a little nose high is not bad, IIRC.
Nice to know about that lift kit Calbar.

You axles are under the springs already.
Very few RV trailers made these days have axles on top of the springs. Usually if they do they're on the low end of the scale.
Not sure how much room above the tires you have but upgrading to 16" tires and a CRE3000 will lift the 5er if it's out of level too much.

This is the problem with 1/2 ton tow-able 5th wheels. They're lower profile suits the lower 1/2 tons but the pin weight exceeds all but the properly optioned 1/2 tons and they're too low sometimes for 3/4 tons.

Your axles will probably be Dexter so the lippert kit will not work. If use the search feature on lifting your trailer there are several threads on lift blocks. Your other choice is find a good suspension frame shop and see what they recommend. Bottom line you really wont know until you hook up. Your truck will squat when loaded and by adjusting the hitch, or king pin to get 7" of bed rail clearance, then you will know how level the trailer tows.

Thanks All for the help. Guess I'll see what happens when the 260RD comes in.

I have a 2020 F250 and my height to the top of the bed is 59". I don't have a problem with mine.

Hello Neal. How much clearance do you have between the bed rail and camper? Can you tell me what hitch you used - I tried a Pullrite Super Pull and it raises my trailer's front end too high. Thanks.

I don't remember the exact distance but I think it is at least 5 inches. I use the Curt A16 with the Curt wedge. It is has three height settings. Mine is setup in the middle and my trailer is about 1 inch low in the front the way I have my truck and tailer loaded.

I had a similar issue with my last 5th wheel and the rail height on my Ram 2500. I ended up putting on the MorRyde SRE4000 suspension and a 2.5" lift on and it netted me about 5.5" of lift. This gave me about 5" of bed rail clearance and had the trailer level when hooked to the truck. The suspension upgrade made a huge improvement in the trailer ride quality and it didn't feel tipsy or look awkwardly high...here is a picture of the suspension and lift and with it hooked to the truck after the lift.
