    Slide toppers

Got my trailer back after 6 months at the dealer for repairs. Part of the work done was adding new slide toppers. I am very pleased with the results.

This is on my to do list. I was thinking white for heat reasons but the black matches so much better... looks good.

Cate&Rob, I see you are towing the 303RLS with an F150. Will you tell us how it does and what weight you are experiencing, if you have weighed in?

    Hi Long Ride,

We tow with an F150 Max Payload which is a little different than the average F150.
I have not weighed the rig, but our truck payload is 2300 lbs and dry pin weight of the 303 is 1700.
We consciously pack as light as we can and tow with all empty tanks. I expect that we are close to payload and trailer limits, but the truck handles it well. If you search "F150" or "Ecoboost" on this forum, you will find lots more discussion on this topic. As a starter, see http://www.mygrandrv.com/for...highlight=F150

    Thanks Cate&Rob,
We are very much in the "2015 F150 Eco-Boost with HD Payload an Towing" camp and just delighted to see it handles these lighter 5th wheelers ok. It is going to be one of our daily rides so the other 80% of the time we are not trailering the F150 is a clear preference for us. We've been looking at the 27RL but were surprised to see the 303RL is also doable. .... do you have dual pane windows? love the slide toppers.

    Hi Long Ride,

We opted not to get the dual pane windows, to save the weight (and the cost )
From everything I've read, they would be nice to have, but perhaps not when minimum weight is so important.

If you are looking at the 2015 F150, there is another 300+ lbs of payload available because of the new aluminum body.

The dual pane windows do seem to be a nice feature to have if the weight and $$$ don't prohibit them. The 2015 F150 is a rocket ship ...only drove one twice but they have impressive payload and towing capacities when properly equipped.

The Max Payload package with the extra springs and 60 psi tires, certainly stiffens up the ride compared to a regular F150. If you could find one to test drive before deciding, that would be good, so there are no surprises. We were not able to, but are also very happy with the truck when empty. There is a benefit to handling (just like stiffer suspension improves car handling). With the higher truck centre of gravity, this is certainly no sports car . . . but it handles way better than any pickup I have ever driven . And . . . with all that Ecoboost torque, it is quick when empty !
