    Getting Back into RVing!

    Greetings All,

Just taking a minute to introduce ourselves.

We just purchased our first 5th wheel (2021 Reflection 337RLS) in Dec 2020. Love it! Many years ago we owned a 1978 Wilderness trailer, then sold that and rented Class A motor homes when we had a desire to take a vacation in a motor home. Kids are grown now and we are hitting the open road again.

Just joined this forum with the hope of getting information and sharing our experiences (good and bad!). Some topics I am going to look for in the Forum (right away) are:
    1. Choosing the right setup for the power systems. Currently have a 12V lead acid battery and no solar power. Looking at options to keep the 5th wheel operational for several days at a time without shore power. Doing the Solar vs generator trade in my mind. Already started reading some of the good threads on this topic.
    2. Utilizing the quick disconnect propane fitting for BBQ, Outdoor heaters, etc.
    3. Sharing experiences on good places to stay!

Looking forward to great interactions with you all!

Welcome. We use to boondock and had solar and wind generator. If you expect to be off-grid much, I'd recommend both. Some of the smaller wind generators mount to the ladder. Get the best mppt controller you can afford. Use the largest wiring you can (like #4 welding wire). Also, think about solar panels that you can move around. You might want an inverter type generator. I decided to go with a separate BBQ bottle because I wanted the option of placing cookers, heater, and fire pot in various locations without a long hose. As to good places to stay -- start a diary on what you do, with likes and dislikes. We are all so different that what is great for one is not great for another. As DW and I have aged, we like to go to RV parks with lots of activities and stay put for months -- lots of folks don't like to do that. We now stay in Southern CA (near El Centro) for most winters. Good luck and safe travels.

Welcome to the forum. Please consider becoming a site sponsor for $12.00 per year and keeping the forum ad free. The return on investment from the knowledge gained is absolutely worth it. The cost of all the ideas and upgrades which you may decide to do cost a bit more.
