Question Air Suspension & Reflection Auto Leveling

    Hi all,
I'm towing my 2020 311BHS with a 2019 Ram 3500 with factory air suspension. It seems like the truck auto-correcting back to level before and after hitching is throwing off the auto-leveling system's ability to return to the right spot. I always end up having to manually adjust the Lippert Ground Control 3.0 leveling system when I'm hitching.

Anybody else using this same system and have it figured out?

I'm wondering if I should manually lower the bed before I unhitch, because then I can then hit that same "bed lower" button to return to the same hight when I re-hitch.

    First World problems....LOL.

I never use that feature as I always unhook higher than where I hook up.

The extra 3 seconds holding the button hasn't strained my finger yet.

I have a 2019 Ram 3500 with the automatic air system and haven’t had any issues with the return to hitch height feature on our Reflection.the truck has always been at the correct height. Question: have you been using the Alternate trailer height feature? If so, that may be your problem. I’m just guessing.

Before unhitching, turn off the alternate height and let the rear of your truck raise. Then, you work the Ground Control. When time to go, you should then be able to use it successfully.

Haha, yes this is definitely a first world problem. I'm thinking that maybe the Ground Control isn't returning to where I dropped it from after I lift the rear jacks. I'll measure the height of the pin before and after and see...

Are you using it in the proper order? When in your site where you want, you need to first select ground front jacks. When done, raise the front jacks by pushing the corresponding button but the panel must not be in manual mode! Clear your truck, and then hit auto level. If it doesn't work properly after this, reset your zero point calibration and try again. Do note if you make any adjustment manually after an auto level, the rehitch point is lost. If you have dealer service your rig or store in a lot free to move your rig, you will always need to reset zero.

I don’t have that feature on my truck, but the Reflection auto reconnect has never worked on my 337 anyway. I have a Wi-Fi camera hooked to portable battery that I slap on my backflip cover using magnets. It looks right at the pin. Have remote control to raise and lower the hitch from the cab while backing in. Works like a charm!

great insight.. what about not unhooking overnight? What do you think about not un-hooking when you are just staying one night?
FYI - I have the Reese Goosebox and the 2017 Ram with rear air suspension. I think as I stabilize the front legs the air suspension might just start to rise as the load decreases?? Maybe it is best to pull the lanyard and let the trailer lift off the ball and then level with the back.

I know if I pull away and the select auto level the FW front end will dip down. So, I currently, cannot have the truck under it.

I have pretty much stopped using that 'return to hitch hight' feature as it hardly was ever right. Probably because, like some others, I hitch at a slightly different hight than what I unhitch at. Self leveling is nice. It's just the 'return to' thing that doesn't work for me.

Welcome @JessJoe4168! Sorry for a delayed response. My activity here ebbs and flows depending upon what life has me focusing on!

So your setup is quite similar to mine. You have two choices in order not to fight the automatic features your RAM has. The first, is obvious, and sort of like you said - just unhitch. Honestly, it is what I mostly do because I can hitch and unhitch incredibly efficiently! Side note, seeing you're from PA, have you taken your test for the non-commercial Class A license yet? If not, depending where you do, you might find one of your requirements is a timed unhitch/re-hitch. I have been the licensed escort for quite a few test-takers now and have witnessed about half of them being asked to do it! Anyway, onto the second, which simply entails pulling the fuse on the air suspension to disable it for the night. I took that approach when I overnighted on the Ohio Turnpike rest stops running back and forth to the factory.
