    Top slide seal melting

    Hello all
2016 369RL On last trip, when moving slides our, heard a ripping/sucking sound on kitchen side. Stopped and went for a look. No obstructions on side, (whew) nothing underneath, so climbed to top where I found the D seal had melted and stuck to slide as it came out. Melted as in some type of chemical reaction. Not heat!!! I had rinsed the rig off about a. Month earlier with the slide in and water only. No soap of any kind!!
Rv is not parked under any trees, and that side actually gets less sun exposure than other side.
    Any thoughts as to cause?
Clean up was fairly easy, used a razor to scrape old stuff off and then ZEP purple degreaser to clean off residue. Then 10 Cycles wash and rinse with water and towel to clean them. (That stuff will eat your skin at full strength!!!!!)
I have not used the purple cleaner on the rig before.
    Thanks Alan

The seal has likely deteriorated with age, baby powder is a good conditioner for the seals. It might be time to give some thought to changing out the seal for new ones.

Interesting, I've never heard that. Wouldn't you have to apply it very frequently as it would get washed off? Or, maybe apply it right before putting slide in before storing trailer between trips.

I just bought some 3-in-1 slide seal conditioner to try. Have never used a conditioner before.

It's a common issue as the seal is degraded by UV and ozone exposure. The bulb is easily replaced. You just need to match up the dimensions of the one you have. Conditioning them twice a year really extends their life. Baby powder does not condition the polymer, but does make a squeak-free slide.

Tape along the inside edge of our slide tops is looking a little worse for the wear, anyone know where to get replacement tape?

Eternabond tape, should be available at any rv parts store in varying widths.

As was said, Eternabond. Factory uses a different brand that's not quite equivalent. If you want the tan, you'll have to likely order online. If you do your homework, you'll find Eternabond is a repackage of a commercial roofing tape, and you can often buy the commercial tape for less money, more widths, and additional colors.

Before fixing the tape, you may want to check your slide alignment. Might be too high and promoting the peeling of the tape.
